On the third day of WSEN 2018 global summit, Mr. Hosoo Masataka,
the innovator and brand director of HOSOO, will make a speech as a plenary session’s guest speaker. HOSOO is a Nishijin-ori textile maker, which is a kyoto-based traditional kimono
textiles.
We visited showroom in the house of HOSOO and met Mr. Hosoo.
Mr. Hosoo have brought Nishijin-ori weaving
techniques and textiles to the forefront of the design and fashion scenes worldwide.
In the showroom, there was a lot of Nishijin-ori
textiles and works made by applying unique skills and materials to collaboration projects with a wide range of companies and creators, for example: camera bags, furniture, clothes and watch
straps. Furthermore, the 1200 years of evolution history of Nishijin was presented in front of us in the showroom, on the other hand, new innovative projects also evolved to exploring a new
value.
On the day of visit, we also discussed about what
he will lecture in the summit. He really understood the purpose of the summit and encouraged us. He said he wants to share with all participants that how traditional crafts, such as Nishijin, can
survive through the changing world, how he made a major revolution in it, and what is an ideal image of Nishijin-ori textile. In addition to that, he will share his opinions about the way how we
should leave traditional crafts including Nishijin-ori textile in the future through his experience.
During the summit, we are going to exhibit his
works.
We firmly believe that his speech and exhibition of his works can help all the
participants in the summit think sustainable development of traditional cultures!
