Participation in the symposium “Artificial intelligence, life science and society ”

Technology and Creation of Industry group went to the opened symposium about “artificial intelligence and life science” held by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on February 12.

The title is “Artificial intelligence, life science and society ”.

Ms. Ema Arisa, special instructor, University of Tokyo and a member of the artificial intelligence society Ethical Review Board committee explained about the difference of artificial intelligence(AI) as the technique and that as the science. When we use AI as the technique, it is necessary for us to decide a purpose and evaluate. On the other side, when we use AI as the science, we make the new methodology and frame based on a new definition. We think when we use and develop AI as science technology, it is important for us to demand not only the efficiency by the technique but also benefit for the human. So we have to think about new ethic and value to become the standard to judge “what is benefit?”.

AI and the life science are based on the question “what is human?”. Because AI is existence such as the human mirror, it is necessary for us to discuss legal, ethical, social and environmental problems caused by AI.

We learned that AI and life science have something in common. We want to consider ethical social problems of the human society and deepen an argument about relationship of human and AI in the future.
